Ontario Improving Transit for Commuters in Kitchener-Waterloo
Province Building New Kitchener GO Bus Facility to Support Future Growth
Kitchener, ON – Oct 21, 2016
Ontario is building a new GO bus storage and maintenance facility in Kitchener that will improve transit service for commuters in Kitchener-Waterloo region, and help meet current and future growth.
Diaene Vernile, Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Transportation and MPP for Kitchener Centre, was at the site of the new facility today to mark the start of construction.
The new facility will accommodate up to 20 single and double-decker GO buses, and will replace the current leased bus storage space. It will help improve GO operations and reliability, enhancing service for commuters in the Kitchener-Waterloo region. The new facility will be located along the Kitchener rail corridor, which was identified in June for GO service expansion.
Ontario is making the largest investment in public infrastructure in the province’s history — about $160 billion over 12 years, which is supporting 110,000 jobs every year across the province, with projects such as hospitals, schools, roads, bridges and transit. Since 2015, the province has announced support for more than 475 projects that will keep people and goods moving, connect communities and improve quality of life.
